We need to contact some sailors in the Biloxi MS area. We have a 26M, the entire mast system fell and the wife quite sailing for a few years. She is ready to try again but we need assistance with gear and some pointers.

Sorry to hear that. Did the mast come down while sailing or while rigging and stepping it?

The safety keeper failed on the front roller furling and fell while sailing, just about 8 inches from the wife was standing. This time has set us behind in sailing the M. We are in Indianapolis IN area now but we winter on the Mississippi Sound in Ocean Springs. We can enjoy Graveline Bay and the Sound and the Gulf near the Barrier Islands.

Wow, glad to hear no one was hurt! I'm guessing the spreaders bent? Is the mast ok?

The bracket was bent slightly, we replaced the spreader bars. She was moored, and we used a plastic zip strip as a keeper and the sun must have made the zip strip became brittle which allowed the screw to come out. AND THE REST IS HISTORY. No one was injured but the wife got the jitters and that removed most of the enoyment from sailing for several months. We need someone to help us secure the rigging then give us pointers on a smarter way to sail as the past two years have taken a toll on our strength also. We will pay for the time and skills and info.

Are you talking about the clevis pin on the forestay? If so I really...

...like the safety rings like above. I think I got mine from Duckworks...

... but except for the small picture above they don't have another picture just the prices and sizes here.....

http://www.duckworksbbs.com/fasteners/clevis/index.htm

..... and I bought a bunch a couple years back so don't remember for sure where they came from.

Maybe they have that type on here. I really like how easy they are to get on and off. That little hooked end is the secret,

You may want to consider a new headstay from BWY if you have the original in place. Chances are if she was dancing on her mooring long enough the head stay took some wear. Look for broken wires around the eye or swages on top, evidence of any broken wires indicates replacement is necessary. The new one is thicker and the swages look better to me. It's a little peace of mind in that department.

Ours is a roller furling but we will give it a REAL good check when we arrive in Mississippi prior to sailing in the Sound.Thank you for the info. Where is your location in the Midwest?

There was one guy who used to be on macgregorsailors dot com forum who was an air force guy who moved his M down to biloxi from the patomac river a couple years ago. That website is down for maintenance and upgrades right now, but will be back shortly. I'll see if i can get his name again.

Sent a message to the guy...
He owns a small charter business there and has an M boat as well. You could contact him via the charter service, but i suspect he will be a little busy, just wanted to get his okay before sending you his way.

That is very thoughtful of you to get his permission. We will contact him if he wants us to whle we are in MS. We should arrive in Ocean Springs on Tues. pm and get the beach house open. We're going to have New Year's Eve at the ball room in Gulf Port; then have a New Year's Day " welcome back to the South" get-together at our house. We love it down there and stay from Jan till May or June. Just let us know.

Jim has agreed to help you out, no problem. He sold his Mac M last year, but had it for many years, is very knowledgeable, and is a sailing instructor also... I'll let you work out the details. PM'g you his contact info.
