Want to add additional halyards

Hi I have a Hunter 45DS with the inmast furling system. I would like to add a spare halyard or 2 for hoisting a dingy on the foredeck or an emergency. The manual states that the topping lift is the spare halyard but I want to add more. When I went to the top of the mast, I do not see any spare pulleys. Has anyone added spare halyards to a Seldon mast with the in mast furling system?

To request additional information in the replies, mine has the fish strings coming out the opening in the side of the mast but I am not sure where the other end is. I assume you would tie the end of the new halyard to the fish string and pull it through, is the other end at the mast head?

If it were my boat I would contact Selden, pose the problem to them and see what they say. Our Isomat mast has four sheaves at the top, all in use; two aft and two forward with no need for more. No room to add more that I can see. I suppose one could install blocks to the outside of the mast towards the top to be used for other matters, but doubt I would ever do that. No in-mast furler here either.

Our Isomat also has an unused sheave on the leading edge of the mast for a staysail about two thirds of the way up. Does yours and could that be used for the purpose you want?

That unused exit block could also be used for a topping lift... to support a spinnaker pole, for example.
MurrayAbbott could use an external topping lift to control the lifting mechanism he needs. Mount the "hound" or eyestrap on the mast to hold the block.. Fasten a horn cleat lower down to handle the control line. If you're using multiple purchase tackle, instead of halyard winch, run it up into position with the topping lift, remove it below when not in use.
Drilling and tapping short screws into the mast to fasten the block supporting eye strap would prevent any possible damage to other things that are in there.

I believe that you may have to change out the headbox in order to add additional blocks, Selden makes several different models, you will have to know the model number of the mast.

I don't have a Hunter, but I did add 2 additional halyards to the top of my mast. They are external and run on two blocks that were added to the topping lift bar. I used to have a photo of how they were added but not any more. The topping lift on my mast is extended out maybe 3~6 inches out from the mast head. The blocks were a little too big so I added wire rope and attached them that way. These blocks and halyards are not load bearing so using them to haul a dinghy aboard shouldn't be an issue. Their primary purpose was to add a SSB antenna for my boat. Just need one but went with two halyards.

Big boat mast are a heck of a lot more sophisticated that this might not work. But it was the only way I could incorporate additional halyards.
