I'm a new owner of a 1988 30'tall rig Catalina Sailboat. Some Catalinas had a windlass installed by Catalina as original equipment. Could someone help with specs on the windlass. I removed the forepeek teak board inside the boat and behind it was a solid fiberglass liner. Looks like I would have to cut this section away. Does anyone have the plans and the specs. to install it to original equipment. Thankyou American Dream

Hi Larry I have the same boat my windless is mounted in the anchor locker horizontialy behind the danfourth anchor there is a screw on deck plate right below the moter that they used to mount it through and there is afoot switch just below the locker cover.It works good and its nice to use it to weigh anchor In deep water but I have 20 feet of 3/8 chain on 5/8" rode and 35LB plow anchor and I like to anchor in 10 to 15 feet of water and I cant use the drum on my windless to pull the chain so I moter up on the anchor put moter in neutral wial boat is moveing pull in line up to chain and let boat free anchor then pull up plow and chain.I think that if the anchor dose not self feed from the helm Its not realy worth haveing.I would save the bucks on the windless and go for a15" flat screen TV DVD That is a great piece of gearJohnOlson

Hi Larry - I don't know how the foredeck is set up on the C30, but I installed the Simpson Lawrence Sprint 900 (since replaced with model 1000) on my C36. I installed it just aft of the anchor locker bulkhead on deck instead of inside the anchor well - this keeps the motor dry inside the boat (and easily accessible), letting the chain fall into the locker on the other side. I posted some photos, along with photos of part of my battery setup, on a simple web page (see Related link below). Trevor

Larry, On the 30 we purchased last spring, it has the orignal factory windlass. Here is a pre-survey pic. Best bet would be to contact Catalina Yachts for the specs.
