I have a walter V drive with a MD11c engine. The coupling between the drive shaft and the transmission is giving me some problems. The three bolts sheared off at a bad time and after they were repaired the shaft keeps slipping out of the coupling. There is only a key and one set screw. Anyone with some used parts?? My prop seems to be too large as the maximum RPM's is about 2250 giving a hull speed of about 6 knots. The boat is a pearson 323 1980. Tom

Could be.....

Could be that your engine is not aligned with the flange. You can check the alignment by loosening the flange bolts, separate the flange and then measure with a feeler guage all around the space in between. You shold be parellel within about .003 or .004". If not that's proabably why the shaft keeps loosening up. You can also drill a detent hole where the set screw hits the shaft and then secure the locking bolt with both blue Loctite and a safety wire but if the bolt continually is coming loose there is definietly a problem that needs to be adressed. Wasn't this engine changed out last or the year before that bt rhe previuos owner? If so it may not have been aligned. Or your motor mounts may need replacing. Al P323 #217 Sanctuary
