Walked Out To My Mooring Today......

Cold winter for sure ...

By early January, half of our 6 cords of hardwood had been burned. We're down to the end of it right now with just a few more weeks of supply. We burned a lot more during the weekdays this year compared to others but this is the first time we'll run out of wood entirely.

Normally, we go thru a little more than 1 bin per week, but this year it has often been 2 bins per week, so lots of re-stocking. This will be the second year in a row that the ice will last until April. We still have snow to the second rail at our backyard fence (maybe 2'). A few years back, we had winters when the lake never even froze over entirely.

(My finished basement project goes unfinished for about the 5th year :redface:) But we keep it nice and warm in the winter and it's the place for me to hide out when I want to read or otherwise be undisturbed. I keep some sailing mags and books on the table.

Maine, this thread makes me remember why we are in St. Croix! (not that I really needed reminding...) :yeah:

Nice and cozy. Don't worry about the home projects they will be there when you get back from sailing. We had extra wood drying and glad of it. Surely the most we've ever burned, but the house has been toasty all winter.

Where I am 56°f is considered brutally cold. Shorts would not fly. That may be due to the humidity though. I have noticed when up north that a dry cold does not feel the same as a wet cold.
Cold is cold my friend, and I hate every second of it. I really want to know when global warming is going to take effect?

I decided to escape the cold and visit the inner banks of NC. It was -19F leaving home. It snowed and was generally crappy weather. The liveaboards were up breaking the ice with boat hooks to flush the head.

Can't wait to see something other than white ground and gray skies. A wood stove will be added soon. Heating oil is ridiculous.

Those of us who live in cold winter locations may not like it, I know I don't, but we can really only blame ourselves.

Here is a photo the Boston Globe had today. The arrow points at my boat. This was a couple weeks ago before the prolonged cold weather and the ice got thicker.

What is the bubbler of choice these days? Also, what is the translucent cover or wrap is so prevalent?

After reading some of these posts, I decided this Sunday that I better check the ice in my neck of the woods. Happy to report San Francisco Bay is ice free at the moment. ?

What ever you can get! No one at this marina has needed a bubbler before. And that includes people who have lived here for more than 15 years

Clear shrink wrap. Just like the white stuff but you get a nice greenhouse affect. A little more expensive, about $50-100 per boat.
