I am looking for some sage advice... I have a 2004 Hunter 33 and my Waeco RPD 50 refrigerator is no longer cooling. I have been told by one Marine Service center that by the time I pay to have it repaired I might as well buy a new one. Any opinions out there? The replacement cost is close to $900.

Re: Second opinion

Thanks for the quick reply... The unit is running. When I first noticed the probllem, I pulled it out and checked for dust, and made sure the fan was operating. Everything checked out fine.

I am in Austin, Texas with limited access to Marine Refrigeration expertise. Given that it is a DC unit, I am hesitant to take it to a Appliance repair shop.

Any suggestions, would be appreciated.

Can you tell whether the compressor comes on, or does the unit try to cycle on, but will not start?

When the Control Module on our fridge system failed a few years ago the compressor would try to start, but would just repeat its start cycle without actually running. The Control Module is the plug and play device that starts the compressor.

I ordered a new one from WAECO and replaced it myself with simple tools. As I recall the unit cost about $150. That was six years ago. Both 1991 model freezer and fridge run 24/7/365. The freezer was recharged in 2002 when we purchased Belle-Vie and it has run fine ever since.
