Trying to keep my 40 year old Volvo alive.. the water pump is leaking where it bolts to the case, one of the bolts holding the water pump in place is totally frozen so I can not repair.
I will keep trying to loosen the frozen bolt, but is there any way to bypass this stupid pump altogether and run piping to an electric pump programmed (somehow) to vary speed by engine rpm?

Well, I guess I struck out with that idea. Any recommendations on how to get corroded st stl bolts out of a cast iron block?
thanks

Stuck bolts, the bane of all sailors. To help remove it, start applying PB Blaster as often as possible, giving it a week or two to work if you can. Then, you're going to need to get a good grip on the bolts - use a 6 point socket if the head is still in good shape. If not, you can drill a hole in the center of the bolt and use an EZ-Out to grab the bolt - note that stainless is hard to drill so you'll want to research that. If the bolt is still stuck, apply heat with a torch, being careful of course. With enough heat, I've never met a bolt that didn't come out.

Hi All , heat worked! got the waterpump off, with rebuild kit in hand. I am determined not to harm this pump which is worth its weight in gold to replace. What are the steps for removing the inner shaft, bearings and seals for a re-build? thanks...
