I am in the process of replacing the Volvo sterngland that comes with the Beta engine
since it was leaking. Having now removed the old sterngland it appears as if the existing
prop shaft tube-- i.e. the copper tube that the back end of the sterngland clamps to-- is
slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the sterngland. It is a small enough
difference that I can simply tighten it down with some hoseclamps, but large enough so
that I can't tighten it down sufficiently with the clamp that is included in the Volvo box.
I'm wondering how other people have installed their sternglands and if there is another
workaround?
To clarify, the sterngland was not leaking from the back end, and I'm not concerned about
leaks, but I am concerned that I may somehow mess up the geometry of the thing and that
it will wear out prematurely.Thanks,
Hans
