I am interested in buying a Pearson 323 that has a Volov Penta with the Vee Drive. There are 2300 hrs on the meter. Does anyone know how this setup is? Is 2300 hrs a lot (1982 boat)? I could use the help. Thanks all!!!

V-Drive

Hello Dave: I walked the great halls of PYI and asked for OPINIONS on a Voval V-Drive and the consensus is we hear little to no problems with them. This is of coarse when a proper V-Drive is coupled up to an appropriate engine. Problems have occurred when to small of a V-Drive is used to a Oversized engine. Consensus is a properly installed V-Drive should run apx. 4,000 to 5,000 hours.?. B IG OPINION. I would suggest that you speak to a Voval mechanic and get his or hers opinion as well. I would look for the obvious signs of oil leaks in and around the main thrust bearings and seals. I would also confirm the oil is not burnt or has suffered a break down. I would not have a problem installing a V-Drive on my own boat if the need were to arise. Hope this helps. Kevin.
