Just a quick note from their web site:

They had smashed into the coral rock at 19 knots – the equivalent of 35 kilometres an hour – in their 65-foot boat, spun 180 degrees and crashed to a halt, grounded on the reef.
They remained on the reef until the small hours of the following morning, before abandoning the boat in pitch darkness and wading in knee-deep water to a dry position on the reef, led by Nicholson - aka Nico.

A small boat from the local coastguard then took them early on Sunday to a small islet, Íle du Sud, which is known as a favourite with shark-watching holiday-makers.
Their blue vessel, caught underneath breaking waves, is badly damaged, but the crew decided to remain for an extra 24 hours to complete a clean-up operation around the area.
“The bad things had to come off,” said the skipper, having just stepped off the local fishing boat, ‘The Eliza’, that transported his crew back to the mainland.
“We had a clear list of removing that equipment, and once we had all those off the boat it came down to removing things that were expensive.
“We’ve done a really good job in clearing it all up.”

I think the statement from the CEO indicated that Alvimedica would have their time corrected for the loss of time due to the assistance. I suppose that could work to their advantage or disadvantage given that their position relative to current weather conditions is variable and can never be duplicated or even approximated.

But at least they hold to the age-old tradition that assistance is more important than the race. And it's only affecting this one leg.

I think it's obvious that Team Vestas Wind is out of the race. I don't know if this blunder is explainable or not, but it was a pretty big blunder to be sure.

YouTube?

The race has been exciting to watch. My wife is even riveted to the screen on the in-shore course races. I have been catching up on YouTube. Have you all had any problems watching the replays? I am using Chromecast to cast the clips from YouTube onto my TV. Granted they are over an hour long episodes, but my replay quits about halfway through. Something about the clip no longer available. Could it be too many viewers? It has happened on 2 different episodes. Any =one else having trouble watching full episodes on YouTube from a TV?

No, not with Smart TV and direct access to YouTube. I've been watching YouTube on a regular basis in HD and it's been fantastic.

Speaking of the inshore races ... I have to say that I prefer watching these style of races with 7 boats on course more than the match racing format of America's Cup. In the match racing, I find that it is almost always a race about winning the start and cover for the remainder of the race. Although I'll admit that the last AC in SF had more than enough lead changes to keep the races interesting, but that may have had more to do with the unfamiliarity with the boats and the learning curve.

These in-shore races are more interesting (to me) to watch because it's impossible to cover when several boats split and take different courses. There is more action around the marks as they all come together.

We tried to do that next to help isolate the problem but I couldn't get it to fast forward to the place where we left off. it kept jumping to the next clip. Operator error probably.
I may try on my tablet as well.

Great to see SCA kick some serious ass in the in port races today. I think they needed that boost.

I agree. They have had a rough time. Started out so good on leg 1 and haven't had a break since then.
