CONGRADS

Nick: Congratulations on your new boat. I'm assuming you bought it from Norton's which is where my old '85 H31 came from. As for sailing to LI in April. Wx can still be a bit nippy in April and if possible I'd wait until the middle of May in order to have warmer temps. Still, as long as you (and your delivery Captain - a VERY smart decision by the way since you admit to limited experience) keep a "weather eye" out, you should have no major problems even in April. I'd recommend a route up the Ches Bay, through the C

New boat got lots of bugs

If this is a new boat, it will have many little problems that will need to be corrected. Some may not appear for weeks or months. Some will not even be noticed at first. Example my anchor roller had a sharp edge(burr) that cut my anchor line (rode), void in gelcoat, etc. You will want to keep your boat close to the dealer until these warranty problems are fixed. Happy sailing

A little help

All the advice so far is very wise. We sailed from the Chesapeake to South Jersey as described by "Congrads". If you need any help as to where we anchored or some other help email us at colsona2@yahoo.com. We are planning to sail to NY Harbour this June for our honeymoon and would love to hear how you did. We are very familiar with the chesapeake from Herring Bay through Cape May through Longport/Atlantic City. The Jersey inland waterways are a bit shallow so we plan to do ocean sailing. We found some very nice places to anchor on our trip last year and could help you in those areas.
