Hello Catalina owners. I'm interested in moving up to a Catalina 380, or 42 mkII. Does anyone know what year Catalina started using vinylester resins in their hulls?

Don't know for sure but

around 1990 they all cut over for blister protection.

Warning!!!!

Vinylester gelcoat does NOT guarantee blister protection. My 1999 270 (purchased new)has had it's bottom done twice. Once under warrantee and once on my own. Just FYI............... And this was in the cold, fresh water of Lake Superior! Maybe the ice caused the blisters?!?!?

cold salt water is the best for blisters. The salt keeps the water from getting into the fiberglass pours.

WHY ;D

Whats the mattter ?? You get beat this summer by a little c-27 and you have to go get a bigger gun??? FYI -- this comming summer, big boat or not, we'll be gunning for you!!!! YOU will be seeing little Catalinas in your sleep.

Re "Why"

Hmm? You must be unaware of our race record this season. But thats because it has not been posted to the club web site yet!!! It seems to make little sense to buy a premium boat if they are going to blister and have the engines blow up worse than a cheep one. I had much less trouble with my c-27, so I'm back in the market for another Catalina. In so far as race results, our records have stayed about the same, Catalina, Irwin, or CS. Is there actually a relationship between boat type and race performance? Maybe not.
