Gentelmen, I recently purchased an first 285 with some existing problems. There are some water leaks from various port hatches and light windows which over time have been negleted and have caused the vinyl lining to become water logged and seperated from the glass hull. I will need to remove the old lining and replace it but I am hopeing that I can purchase the lining already cut out to the specs of my boat from Beneteau. Can someone comment on the way to attack this??? I am trying to avoid a wallpaper type installation since the cutting of the vinyl, exactly to specefic measurements and proper adhesive are crucial.

liner and other challenges

I had a F285 for four years and found Beneteau Service dept to be very helpful. They even sent me small parts, like those barrel nuts/ bolts that hold the windows in, at no cost. Try them first if you haven't already. They even had the replacement F285 cabin top decals which most owners have removed at this point in time. On your windows, regasketing and new barrel nuts/ bolts was an annual event to keep the water out. Third year I laid a bead of black sealant around the outside perimeter of the gasket before putting the window back on. Removed the excess and no more annual replacements. Other spots to check, the keel bolts. The shallow bilge is prone to corroding the steel washers and nuts on the keel bolts, clean them up and coat them well. You'll also find no fuel gage, I used a dowl and measured the tank, which you can easily access behind the head, and notched the dowl for easy reading. It only holds 7 gallons but the engine also just sips fuel. The volvo engine is a great engine and easy to service. Great boat, fun to sail, reef early and enjoy. I have a 331 now.
