Victron MultiPlus not charging after generator capactor blew

I'm on my way from South Africa to the Newport, RI area and just arrived in Bermuda. I have a NextGen UCM 9.5 generator, and the other day the capacitor, which goes to the excitation windings, blew. I replaced it, but since then, it's not charging.

The generator is outputting 225V at 49.9 Hz, which is exactly what I expect. I have (2) MultiPlus II 24/5000 charger/alternators in parallel, and when I look at them via the Cerbo or VRM, I see this voltage coming in, but the state shows Disconnected. When I shut off the generator, I get a Grid Lost error.

Have you tried turning both Multis off then back on with the physical rocker switch on the unit? Also reboot the Cerbo perhaps.

If your alternator is producing power and it’s not reaching the system, you have a blockage or open circuit.

This may be a long shot, but.....One thought: does the replacement capacitor include an inline diode? If so, be aware that diodes are directional; installed backward, they will block current flow.

No diode.

Completely power-cycled the entire boat with no change.

Ok. There are some settings you can try to change in VEConfigure. On the “Grid” tab disable “UPS function” and enable wide input frequency. On the ”General” tab enable “Dynamic current limiter”. Also the “Charger” tab you could enable “Weak AC”.

Here is a more detailed explanation and other tips. You might also check that the Multiplus and Cerbo firmware is up to date.
