Can the UTP cable on this unit be shortened without loss of performance? My guess is yes. Looks like a common 6 wire, or 3 pair connector. There is no way I'll need such a long cable.

Just a guess, but my guess is that you can shorten if you can make a good connection. My thinking is that it's not like a depth finder where timing is everything.

Why bother? Either buy a shorter one at Radio Shack or just loop it up with a wire tie.
