Hi all. I am in the process of buying a 74 cal 29. took it out yesterday in 25+ knots. The boat had not seen a human on board for over a year(many seagulls though). The diesel fired right up (universal m3-20b) upon hiting open water I fired it up to 2000 rpm and started to get some pretty strong vibration in the boat. No overheating or oil pressure problems indicated by the gauges. I am assuming it could be the cutless bearing or the shaft allignment. don't really know. Ron if you are in the process

of buying, then I assume you were doing your sea trial. Everyone will recommend that you have the boat hauled out and surveyed. If you can move the shaft (grab and shake) at all in the cutlass bearing then that needs replacement.

Fowled Prop

If no one has been on the boat for a year, probably they haven't been under the boat for a year. The prop is probably coated with barnacles. You probably would like to see what is under water (or hopefully your surveyer) before you buy the boat.Bill
