I was sailing with my son last weekend. He asked me what was causeing a vibration sound. After investigation I believe it may be from the motor mount board on transom.
I'm using a 5 hp Tosatah OB now but I'm getting ready to attach a motor mount to allow me to use a short shafted 9.9 Johnson my brother gave me a few years ago.
Has anyone every experienced a vibration sound from the motor mount?

Centerboard boat?

If the boat has a centerboard, the noise is probably coming from the wire that controls the centerboard.

Re: Centerboard boat?

Hi Honeyman....I have a line that raise and lower my swing keel. Thanks for your reply.

In our case, we have a vibration noise at the ladder latch when using the motor. I'm assuming your vibration is when using the motor?

I think the 9.9 motor is going to be serious overkill. Consider the weight of this engine and that it may cause your boat to have a starboard list.

If you have bushings on your swing keel pivot, they might need replacing. If they are worn it could cause play in the keel. Just a thought.

Another thing, is the 9.9 electric start with remote controles. If it is not just think how far down you will have to reach to reach controles.

To get motor to set at correct depth you will have to lower mount about 5 inches. I have a long shaft (20in) now and can not imagine reaching another 5 in. over the stern.

Just somthing for thought.

As for viberation in motor mount, I believe that is possible with a one cylinder motor and an older mount .
