Thread seems to be slow. Question: In your local racing programs, what part does the VHF radio play ?? Does your race committee use the VHF radio for info, changes etc. ?? RD

Not enough...
There could be a lot of improvement in the use of VHF on some programs. However, the single-handed races use it a lot for check-ins and passing info. I would like to see more use of it in all programs. Steve

The VHF is only used for communication between the committee boat and the chase boat during the setting of the marks. All communication between the committee boat and the racing fleet is done with flags, horns and a starting gun plus the course board on the stern of the committee boat. This makes everyone learn the meaning of the flags.
