i own a Standard Horizon Eclipse VHF radio that has,until recently, worked great. now when i turn it on the LCD screen lights, but it is blank. after about 1 - 2 min. the unit beeps and signs on to channel 16 as normal and works perfect. what could be causing this delay ?

try a reset
some vhf radios allow you to reset the memory chip via a concealed reset button. i don't have your type of unit onboard, but you may want to check the owner's manual to see whether a memory reset is possible.
