Very Little Intake Water

Near the end of last sailing season, my electric Jabsco toilet in the rear head quit so I replaced it with a new Jabsco electric toilet. I followed the installation instructions but now there is very little intake water when the flushing button is pushed. Any ideas where to start looking - the toilet pump is suppose to be self-priming?? Just a little extra info - I bought the boat two seasons ago - my H42 is a 1990 model and I am sure the hoses and toilet were original equipment. That said, the old toilet, before it died, worked very well and drew plenty of intake water - the motor just quit one morning and a Jabsco rep indicated that it would be more cost effective just to install a new one. Thanks! Bill

Could be due to several causes

Could just be that something is blocking the thru-hull...a critter, or you've managed to suck up something. Could be a kink in the intake hose...could be some debris or a defect in the channel in the rim of the bowl. Once you've eliminated all the external possibilities, since it's a new toilet and under warranty, I suggest you talk to Jabsco about the problem.

The aft toilet

on my boat, in addition to the normal Jabsco pump on the toilet, has a water puppy pump in the engine compartment that assists the toilet pump, probably due to the long hose run. The puppy pump is connected to the toilet flush switch and both pumps operate at the same time when the flush button is pushed. The older configuration had a siphon break, located behind the engine, that is electrically closed with flush switch actuation. The siphon break usually lasts about 3 years in a salt water environment. Boats with the puppy pump ususally have too much water requiring partial closure of the thru hull. Hope this helps. A.B.
