I find the the newer non-Mercury float switches don't seem to hold up with my 2000 Hunter 460. Has anyone made the switch to vertical or sensor based switches like the Water Witch?
Practical sailor likes both alternatives.

Have installed Atwood S-3. Seams to work well. Does need to be cleaned by wiping top sensor once or twice a season.

I have a Water Witch and so far it has been utterly reliable.

I read many bad reviews about the Water Witch and decided not buy one when replacing my POS traditional float switch. In principle they sound like the perfect product but there seem to be too many people who have had problems with it. Check out one of the discussions on the Cruisersforum.

I recently replaced my float switch with a Ultra Safety Systems Senior with high water alarm capability. Most of the reviews I've read were very favorable. The most noted complaint was the price. It looks like a very well made piece of equipment and the fact that it has the capability to activate an optional high water alarm (another pricey part) was what sold me. http://www.tef-gel.com/contain.php?param=pumpswitch_infor
