Venture Trailer Hubs

Hi Gang!Ok, got another one for you. Anybody pulled the hubs off the Venture trailer? As you know, the nut and cotter pin are buried behind some kind of an extension to the hub, like where a "Bearing Buddy" should be, so how does one get at them? I broke off that inboard grease fitting and at sometime want to work on the hub. Any ideas? Thanks.

Dust cover for bearig?

I may not understand your question, but I think the extension that you are calling a "hub" is the dust cover for the bearing. If so, the dust cover can be removed by taking a screw driver and inserting the blade between the dust cover and the bearing housing. It may take a light tap with a rubber mallet to get the blade between the edge of the dust cover and the housing. Work your way around the dust cover prising lightly with the screw driver blade and it should come right off. Also, I think the grease fittings simply screw into the hub at the back of the bearing so you should be able to screw the broken one out to replace it with a new one.

Clarification

Hi Lamar!Thanks, butI think your advice is based on the common cup-shaped metal bearing cover found also on auto hubs, did many of those. But Venture is different. What you first see is a black plastic cover that then slides over a metal pipe-like extension few inches long. Look inside that and you'll see the bearing nut and cotter way in with no way of getting at it?????

Remove metal pipe extension the same way

On my Venture trailer, when I installed the Bearing Buddys, the metal pipe extension that has the black cover over it came out the same way as I described for the hub. The metal pipe extensio is friction fitted in the bearing hub. It fits into the bearing hub about 3/8 ". I suspect your trailer has a similar arrangement.

Lamar!Thanks. Those pics say it all. That's kinda what I thought but was reluctant to try. Trailer will put our baby in the water for the season and then I'll work on the hub. By the way, love that Woody Wax,great stuff and worth the price. For other than non-slip requirements, found Collinite 845 Insulator wax that father-in-law uses,fabulous.
