Venture 17 backstay?

Just aquried a 70s Venture 17.Was there,should there be a backstay? Side stays are aft of the mast. Ohter rigging and info on this boat needed. Thank you, R.J.

No backstay

Randy,I don't think that your boat ever had one! Go check-out the brochure at http://www.macgregor-yachts.com/65-70.htm. It would appear that the photo of the MacGregor 17 doesn't have a backstay. Also, the boom is quite long and it would be impossible to clear any backstay installed there. Really strange......

Venture 17 Backstay

I have a Venture 17 and can tell you that it didn't have a backstay from the factory, the side stays are far enough aft to provide support to the mast
