I just bought a c30, and would like to improve ventilation while the boat is buttoned up as well as in use. I need to know what works based on experience. I've not seen a c30 with dorades, is there a reason? Do solar power vents get the job done, or do they need to be battery powered? Where do they need to be positioned? Thanks; Nick Fletcher

Solar vent

I put a solar powered vent in the ventilation hatch behind the mast years ago, and have been happy with it. With the back-up solar powered battery, it runs almost all of the time. Has not leaked water into the boat even with the heaviest of rains or seas over the deck. As I put it in soon after I purchased the boat, I can not provide before and after comparison data, but I believe it is improving cabin ventilation.

My C30's solar vent is in the forward hatch. I keep it so it acts as a supply fan instead of exhaust. My hatch boards in the companionway have three slots in the top board and have an open wood box over them to keep the rain out. The combination works well as I have never had mold or an ordor problem even in high humidity conditions. My boat is on the hard now so in addition I prop up the interior cushions to allow some air circulation.
