The other day I installed a Day&Night 2000 solar exhaust vent in the forward v-berth hatch. It works great and is probably spinning away at this moment. The booklet says it can move 700 cu/ft per hour, which should be plenty, but it assumes a passive vent somewhere else to let in fresh air. Any ideas on where to locate a passive vent near the aft end of the H260? A clamshell somewhere? Do I even need one? -Jay

I have the same set up on my H240. I have not found it neccessary to mount another vent anywhere. Your boat is not where near air tight. Nicro only recommends the intake vent on larger boats. Since installing mine I have noticed a difference. On hot days when I first open the boat up I dont have that stagnet smell. Also used to have a problem with moisture building up under the cushions in the aft berth. The vent has helped this situation also.

Ray, yes. No elec connection required.
The vent uses solar power during the day to run the fan AND to charge a Ni-Cad battery. The battery is the size of a normal D-cell and will run the fan through the night, thereby turning the fan 24/7! I chose the fwd hatch for ease of installation, to keep the fan away from where we sleep, (although once I installed it I found this was not nessasary. It is super quiet) and to get a good cross flow of air (i.e. bow to stern) -Jay

Mounting Question?
I have considered installing one of these types of fans but don't know if it is a good idea installing it on my forward hatch or the plexiglass window next to the hatch. It is slanted will that allow rain to enter? I don't want to cut a hole in the cabin top. Does anyone have any experience with these types of fans installed on a slant. I would really like to keep some air moving in the summer. It is so hot in the delta at times. Any help would be appreciated. Carl s/v Wind Shadow

A boat this size it is best mounted in the hatch over the v-berth. Alot of air enters the boat from the area of the companion way and the slider. With the exhaust fan forward it creates a nice airflow through the boat. It is very easy installation.

Sean, Ray again, Does the 260 have the opening
center forward cabin hatch/window like the older 26's. I see that the newer 260's only have one window forward where the 26's had three. Does that window open and is that where you installed the vent fan? Thanks, Ray S/V Speedy

Ray, as you know, the H26 has the windshield divided into 3 panels; the middle panel is an operable hatch. The H260 has a fixed windshield and a rectangular hatch mounted flat in the deck forward of the windshield. This is one of the main differences between the boats. FWIW I know a guy who installed a solar vent on his H26 in the deck between the windshield and the anchor locker (where the hatch would be on the H260). I'll probably do it that way, too. I wouldn't want the view through the windshield obscured by the vent.

Aft berth Hatch?
Hi Jay, If you have a 260 (as indicated in your post), then it must have a hatch in the aft berth. On mine, I simply leave the hatch open just a crack -- there is a position for this on the locking handle. Since the hatch is under the seat, it is protected from rain and weather. It works well and I don't have an active ventilation system at all. Fair winds... Tom
