Hello to you all.
.
What would be the best way for me achieve increased air flow living on board my Hunter.
. .
I would like to know if you have fitted extra ventilation to your hunter.
If so what have you fitted ?
.
Have you fitted a Dorade box
.
or a
.
cowl that screws direct on to a deck fitting.
.
I would even consider hockey stick tubes.
.
What would be the best way forward.
All help gratefully received.
.
very kind regards,
Leslie.

I placed 4 computer type fans, 2 on each vent louvers in cabin ceiling. The each fan set has one blowing in and another out so that i could switch to expel stale air or bring in fresh air. Ive the on/off and in/out switches mounted on ceiling near the vent fans.

Hi there Ken,
Very resourceful, I like that a lot.
I will investigate existing facilities to include this modification.
Thank you.
kind regards,
Leslie.

I added caraframo fans. I tapped the d/c power from the lights in the v berth, and used the suction cup version with a long enough wire to stick it on the hatch to blow air down into the v berth. I placed three of these in the main cabin and they can rotate, also jumped the power from the light. And i put two more in the aft cabin.

Dear Ben,
An interesting and worthy concept.
Suction cup on the hatch, hummm. why didn't I think of that.
Lovely.
I have been thinking of the Solar Powered auto Attic Fan ventilator roof fan Vent.
£48 English pounds.
Ken has fitted computer fans (as you will see) a good Idea too.
On/Off paired two way switching,
Will draw air flow in a preferred direction, helping any natural flow.
Thank you both for your input.
I am convinced that the "Hunter yacht" is a good choice.
For me at least.
very kind regards,
Leslie.

The issue for me is being able to run off 12 volt to be self sufficient, and not to have to mess with much once the hook is down or at the marina. I have a legend 1990 37.5 and there is no A/C installed. I have one of those stand up AC units for when i am at the marina, otherwise everything on the boat is 12 volt. The fans only use 0.2 amp hours per fan, so I can run them a long time without battery recharge.

The hunter is a great boat. I have always gravitated to them. You have made a fine choice.

Hi Ben,
I`m with you all the way.
On the hook, the genny gets an hour a day if required.
I have two 100 watt solar panels.
Air con is a bit noisy, its 1997.
The available build information, available (stock) spares.
That is before you see the layout options.
Yes, I am very pleased.
Thank you.
Leslie.

Here's the photo of the fan installed in the cabin vents. It shows only 1 fan but actually has 2 stack together in opposing direction. So that both vent could either blow in or extract out by simple switching, which is not shown.
Fan is tie down by a thin shock cord.
At the top outlet of the ventilation port, you see a chicken coop wire mesh. That's to prevent rats :cussing: from getting into boat.

Scoop

Also besides fans could use scoop on the front hatch is very popular and
I have canvas cover over my front hatch keeps sun and rain out but allows
air in and Use this 24/7 and no worry about rain and helps keep cool from sun but let fresh air in.

Dear Ken,
Your`e a star.
That is an excellent solution.
Putting them in back to back is great idea,
that takes it to another level.
To add the wire mesh is so sensible.
I hope that others find this as helpful as I do.
Again, I thank you.
very kind regards,
Leslie.

Hello Nick,
Good thinking.
Is this the sugar scoop type that we see around ?
do you use a stock item or have you developed your own style.
living on board helps us develop ideas that we have glossed over in the past.
It has highlighted how still air can be heavy .
I look forward to trying all of the ideas and thank you for helping.
very kind regards,
Leslie.

Scoop

I don't have the sugar scoop type that goes on the hatch and a spinnaker halyard holds it up,we have a Hoodie Hatch copy by Banner Bay.com
Ours just a long canvas that covers our front hatch a few ft forward of the hatch and a few ft back of it and as said keeps sun and rain out but allows wind
in the hatch.
Really works great.

Hi there Nick
. Thank you,
I recognize the banner bay type.
Yes, I can see how that would work well.
Do you have elastic mosquito screens over the hatch.
we don't have a mozzy problem as such, just little black bugs.
Thank you again.
Its good to talk.
kind regards,
Leslie.

Ocean screens

I added ocean screens that one side the screen slides and other side
for shading and during day nothing and at night slides screens to keep bugs out.
I am anchored out at Smoke House Bay as I type on my labtop with 10 other sailboats from Punta Gorda Sailing club,we are out on our annual south cruse for 3 weeks and about 20 other sailboats in the keys and some headed for Bahama's and some other anchorages in SW Fl.
We are having a fun time for sure.

Walmart has 12 volt fans with cigarette lighter plugs. They're about 8 inches in diameter and have a large rubber coated alligator type clamp that allows you clamp the fan anywhere you want.
We clamp ours onto the companionway hatch, to the grab rails inside the boat, to the flip up lexan windows so that they pull air in directly from the port, and anyother place we want a fan...... completely portable and flexible. They will also oscillate if you want them to.
Cant remember the exact price, but, cheap..... $10 ?

But those walmart fans:eek: use a lot of 12 volt and yes had them in my sailboat too and they don't seem to last long.
I have replaced the walmart with carfram fans and yes they are more but I can run 2 or more all night with out sucking up my batteries.
HD had them for $ 25 a few years ago and got 4 of them but they don't carry them any more and also found the more $$$$ carfram ones in a Marine trader store that sells everything used at a good price.
