My boat is getting smelly! I was wondering what sort of ventilation people have on their O'day 25. My boat has nothing other than the slots in the hatch board. I was thinking of adding a dorade on the cabintop over the head, and maybe some clamshell vents towards the stern. Or maybe a solar vent in the forward hatch. Any ideas?

Steve, I solved that exact problem by replacing the 2 forward most port windows with ports that are capable of opening... thus I get a continuous flow thru of air. Installation was easy... I just had to enlarge the opening slightly. I used Beckson opening ports that beleive -it-or-not were cheaper @WM than on the Beckson website....$109 ea. Good luck

nicro vents
a nicro solar day/night vent will do wonders also. they should be mounted at a high point, like overhead in the head and set on exhaust. had mine for over 12 years.

Opening ports again
My OD 28 has opening ports in the head area and I leave the one over the sink open all the time. If it should rain in the water goes right into the sink. It's a great ventilator with the slats cut into the companion way boards. I have thought that a solar powered vent would be a good idea but I find myself on the deck working a lot and I'm sure I'd end up tripping over it or stubbing one of my too sensitive pinkies on it. Maybe.... directly in front of the mast where it would be out of harms way, maybe. Good luck and fair winds, Mike S/B Pitterpat, Lake Huron
