Ventilation for generator in Lazarette

How do you provide adequate ventilation (air intake and exit) for your generator if it is installed in one of the lazarettes?

I will be installing a NextGen 5.5KW in the port lazarette. From the NextGen site they recommend forced (fan driven) exhaust ventilation. Where do you put the exit and what kind of fan did you install? I can exit it (thinking 4 inch) out the stern, as high as I can get it. I'm worried though on a following sea of a wave getting water into it. How have you addressed the ventilation. If you have any pictures of you installation (doesn't have to be a nextgen) I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

As I recall from owning a 40.5 years ago, a vent already exists through the transom. Can you use that?

If so, a direct exhaust vent from the genset should suffice albeit a bit loud.

Yes, there is a vent with sort of a "mushroom" cover that I might be able to use. I was planning on using that as the inlet air for combustion and intake air to allow movement. Maybe I'm over engineering this some.

The direct diesel engine exhaust (ie the motor running/water mixer) will go overboard through a ventus water muffler. Its the air ventilation in the small compartment I'm concerned about overheating the engine.

Hi Smokey we have a NextGen 3.6 Kw in the lazarette of our H356. It is in a sound proofing case and the lazarette compartment is lined with the engine room foil/foam sound proofing material. The sound proof case has a Jabsco, 110volt, squirrel cage fan, (4" hose) running from the top of the case out to a Chrome Perko clamshell vent mounted high up on the transom. The fan is hardwired to the output of the generator. It seems to work fine. We have about 950 hrs on it now. The sound proof case has a side vent for air intake. I drilled a few 1" holes at the top of the lazarette for an outside air intake. These holes are along the sides and can not be seen when the seat is folded down in the normal position. I glued some window screen over the holes on the inside to keep bugs out. Any other questions let me know, Bob

Bob 04 thanks for the pics.

Anybody else out there have pictures of their installation.
