Vented loop

I have completely replaced the sanitation supply and discharge systems on my Columbia 9.6 except for the holding tank. On the sanitation side I placed a "Y" valve AFTER the holding tank for the future addition of a diaphram pump for overboard discharge. A Don Casey/BoatUS How To brochure shows no vented loop in the discharge for this arrangement. It seems logical that this arrangement would be OK as long as the discharge seacock remained closed except when discharging (I would do that anyway) and that the boat would not be heeling during the discharging. Am I correct? I would prefer not to install the vented loop. Space is tight and that 1 1/2" sanitation hose is tough to work/bend to get it high enough for the loop.Thanks!!Jay T.

Until you install the pump,

There's no need for the vented loop, 'cuz the seacock won't ever be open anyway. (Btw...at least once a month, "excercise" the y-valve to keep it from freezing up). When you do install the pump, if it's a manual pump and mounted at least a foot above the waterline at any angle of heel, you won't have to install one at all. But if not, and if the tank is even partially below the waterline, you'll need one.
