Vented Loop Question

In checking all hose connections I came across the vented loop under the sink. Where does the hose coming off the vent supposed to go? Mine is connected to one of the sink drains and then that goes to the through hull. Is that correct?

Admiral,

HV is correct, the hose should go to an inline mixing tee before the water muffler box. This mixes the exhaust with water before the muffler & lowers the temperature of the gas leading to the stern exhaust. Exhaust gas temperature leaving the engine is pretty damn hot.

Here's a link that will give you more info pal.

Ok. The hose first exits the engine on top of the head. It goes up through he galley cupboard creating the vented loop and back to the exhaust. At the top of the vented loop is another hose and that is the one that connects to the sink drain line. My thought is that does not seem correct to have the vented loop top hose going to a drain.

Admiral,

Are you saying that your sink drains into your exhaust hose then to the muffler box?

Your sink to drain to a thru hull valve & fitting under the sink cabinet.

Admiral,

I didn't read your post correctly, my bad.

The vented loop fitting is a baffled fitting that stops backflow of seawater. Let's say you're having trouble starting your engine. The worst thing to do is let your engine crank more than eight seconds. There is the possibility that this can cause seawater to be suctioned back thru your system. I hear there is a danger of this & your engine. There is a fitting atop the highpoint fitting, but mine is a screw cap. I feel that if this is left to free vent, this is not what I would want. The HP vent is to stop back suction, leaving an open hose for flow, I feel would defeat the purpose. I have the cap for 24 years with no problems.

Your best bet if having questions would be to contact a local engine rep & ask them what they recommend.

Hi, I have a 1977 C30 and here are a few pictures that I took when I first bought the boat. It is exactly as you describe. A vented loop with the vent connected to a hose that is T'eed to the sink drain...

So a hose from the vent goes to the sink through hall. Usually the vent does not leak unless the duckbill is improperly installed. With this set up a duckbill may not be required.

Thanks Team 118. That is exactly what I have. Since things have been cut up and parts replaced under the sink I wanted to make sure this was correct.

My boat is a 1978. Just wanted to make sure this was correct.
