Vented-loop in 15?

Well the Cricket now has a vented-loop. And yes, Peggy, between the pump and the bowl. :) You can see it over on the "Photo Forum". It would have only taken an hour(not 15 minutes) but it leaked like a sieve at the inlet side of the marelon loop. I had to use several wraps of teflon tape and two clamps to stop it. The original hose came off easily. I had to loosen and then turn the elbow at the top of the bowl to point directly to my right. Besides the leak the time-consuming tasks were removing the panel that covers those loops and hoses and securing the new loop to the bulkhead. Fortunately that is not the hull. Now I can inadvertently leave the lever in "WET" with the thru-hull open and NOT sink the boat.

Good job, Ed!

An hour isn't bad for an amateur. :) ALL sanitation hose connections should be double clamped, btw...but it sounds like the loop was more than a bit out of spec if it needed teflon tape too. That's not uncommon on PVC fittings, btw...they aren't made for the space program.

Au contraire!

Peggy, if you check part #1326 on page 8 of the Raritan web-site Cricket owner's manual it states 1" hose. Plus the hose was very tight, had to use soap for the Cricket fittings. It was only on the vented-loop that the hose was loose. And it really was not that loose, it surprised me when it leaked. See link.

Got a towel I can use to wipe the egg off my face?

You're absolutely right...I even called Raritan to be sure it wasn't a typo. The INTAKE hose IS 3/4"--which is the industry standard for all marine toilets. ...but the hose between the pump and the bowl--which is where the loop has to go--is indeed 1". It never occurred to me they wouldn't be the same size.

You are allowed one. . . .

mistake this year. :) Especially after all the help you have given to so many.

Ruled a tie!

Putting on my judge's robes, I hereby rule a tie between Ed and Peggie! Ed looses $1000 for failing to make the installation within the allocated time, and Peggie looses $1000, since she would have arrived with the wrong hose size, and therefor also neede extra time. Both participants are thus ordered to enjoy a long, tall, cool one in celebration of their collaborative effort to allow Ed to sleep with through-hull open and his lever set to wet. And I am spared a trip to Cleveland :)))))))

Spared?! You meant denied, . . . .

Tim, I am certain. A common mistake by those who have missed sailing the islands of Lake Erie. :) But a tie is acceptable. Now did I close that thru-hull last night?

Ed, but when it is winter,

and something a little toasty sounds like fun, consider "denying" yourself :), and visit someplace like Cabo!

Vented loop?

More like a pressurized holding tank! Lots of odor, head backing up, wouldn't pump down. Thought I had a rebuilding job, but it turned out to be a plugged vent causing the tank to pressurize. Disconnected the hose (carefully at the tank end, let me tell you) and flushed the hose and mechanically cleared the hull fitting. The Oday 28 at least made everything accessible and it was already smelling better when I left. Tomorrow will be a trip across the river for a pump-out. Made a note in the maintenance log to put a rag in the overboard when hauling and remove it when launching next year. Thanks for all the help, Peggy! I hate indoor and inboat plumbing equally, but it beats being without. Bill Coxe, O28 Aroundtuit, O22 (porta-potti) Closure
