Boat builders don't install vented loops because..
It's am added expense they don't consider necessary if the buyer never leaves a thru-hull open except when the toilet is actually in use. However, they make that just about impossible by putting seacocks in locations that are zo inaccessible as to make almost impossible just to close 'em when leaving the boat.As for replumbing with hard pipe... there have been a bunch of people here lately who've decided to go that route, but you need to know that hard pipe is only recommended for long STRAIGHT runs, and there aren't very many of those on sailboats...the stuff doesn't bend more about 5 degress, so every bend that's more reuqires installing a radius fitting that has to be PVC cemented, and each connection creates another "bump" that catches sea water minerals, waste, TP etc..,that every connection to anything rigid--toilet, y-valve, tank, pump, thru-hull--has to be "soft coupled" with enough hose--about a foot--to provide protection from shock and flex...all of which means, if you're gonna do it right your plumbing will have a zillion fittings in it, all of which are potential leakers. You'll typically enjoy 2-5 years of trouble-free, odor free sailing...but as the PVC cement begins to degrade, you're gonna be chasing one leak after another.But...it's your boat, and those who recommend it obviously know a lot more about it than I do.
