I'm installing a holding tank and macerator pump, etc for the head on my 'new' 1978 Catalina-30. Does the vent line for the holding tank need to go to a vented stanchion (which costs about $100), or is there a better way to go? How about venting to the vent port at the back of the cockpit? Roger

380 is like this

the vent line comes from under the starboard setee through the closet and up the side of the boat. it is in the back corner of the hanging locker, and therefore does not interfere with space. i installed an air filter myself (the filter needs to go as high as possible). anyway, the line continues almost to deck level with a vented loop. then it comes back down about a foot from deck level and discharges overboard. the 380 fitting is a 90 degree fitting. the part that is seen on the outside of the boat is a very small cowl vent. this vent is the same as used for water and fuel tank vents. i do not know the part number, but warren pandi at the catalina factory in largo, fla can tell you what you need. the hose comes out of the top of the hanging locker in the far outside aft corner. then, the liner is cut away so the loop and vent fitting can be attached. the is a form fitted piece that covers the installation. good luck.;
