Vent hose for holding Tank

I have got a puzzler. I have 1" through hulls on each side of the bow. I am leading 1" vent hose down each side to the holding tank under the V berth. That makes up about 3 feet each. Now the puzzle. The tank will be a Ronco that is about 12" high, 10" wide and 30" long fore and aft. I have a choice of putting both vent hoses on the forward end of the tank but that will leave a dead air space on the aft end. I can have one hose forward and the other 30" away on the aft end, but that will create more flow friction down that extra 30" of hose. Anyone got any ideas which is the lesser of the evils. Thanks Good Winds Dave

Go forward off the bow end of the tank

If the vent line is only 3 feet, and is absolutely straight, you really don't need two vents...one should do it. I have absolutely NO idea what you mean by a "dead air space."

Dead Air Space

Peggy, Thanks for the response. What I mean by dead air space is if I have the vent inlet at the forward end of the tank there will be very little air exchange in the aft end of the tank because it is so far from the vent tank connection in the forward end. Good Winds Dave

Unless your tank is 10' long, Dave...

there'll be plenty of air exchange from a single 1" vent at the bow end. Compare it to a room with only one window...it has to be a very large room to prevent air from circulating throughout it when the window is open. And running the vent forward means that the thru-hull will always be into the wind, forcing air into the tank...the back pressure inside the tank will, in turn force air back out the same vent.
