Peggy: The vent hose on our boat has a "belly" in it between the tank and the thru-hull. I have been advised to periodically flush the hose out due to the importance of keeping it clear. However, I am reluctant to do that because I am not certain how the water left in the belly will effect its performance. Whenever we pump out, will that water be sucked out of the vent hose?

The simple solution:
Shorten the vent line to remove the "belly" in it. It shouldn't be there anyway.
