Peggie - I know this probably seems like a REALLY stupid question, but I'm having a heck of a time finding a part online for my upcoming holding tank replacement project. Tank - Ronco, check; Hoses - Aussie Orderfree, check; Vent line cap/thru hull - no luck, Maybe it's because I don't know exactly what to call it and am using the wrong search terms. I've checked WM, BoatUS, Defender, SailNet, and a host of other usual suspects, but I'm striking out. I currently have a cap, but I was looking to go to a 1" vent line, unless that seems too big. Thanks, as always, for your guidance. T J ps - One thing that I may not have been clear on, and may not be necessary, is that the existing vent is 'covered', kind of like I've seen on fuel and fresh water vents.

Use an open bulkhead fitting

The kind you're looking for is actually a fuel vent thru-hull...boat builders use 'em water and waste tanks too because it costs 'em less than buying smaller quantities of two different types. But they're a very poor choice for holding tank vents because allow very little air in OR out...and also clog very easily. So use an open bulkhead fitting instead...you'll find 'em in the catalogs under "through hulls." Better yet, make the vent 1" instead of the "standard" 5/8" that is that size only because water and fuel tanks also have 5/8" vents. See link below for more details.

Thanks for the quick answer...

Well, I'm glad to know that I wasn't that far off. Your explanations were pretty much was thinking, but didn't want to make any unfounded assumptions. I was already leaning towards a 1" vent, per your earlier recommendation. Thanks again - T J
