I just received an alert that the village is open and the start will be on November 10th.
Until then I hope this thread can nail down a start time, say in EDT. And I hope to hear ideas about the best ways to follow the race. I notice there is an app. I don't know if there is an English version but I'll be looking into it. I'd also welcome any comments about the use of the Windy route planning in regard to following the race.
It's time to get up to speed for those who enjoy following this event.

And for those who did not fare well in HS French, here's a link to the English language version.

A whole lot of sail area for relatively light vessels. A 7,000 sq ft downwind sail and 3,000+ sq ft upwind sail on an 18,000 lb vessel. Holy smokies hang on to your hats.

I use Windy a lot. Share what you have in mind. I also have used the Grib file charting of Open CPN. It has exceptional detail.

Is Windy a feature for racers or is it a sponsor?

The Vendee racers will use proprietary weather information that we mere mortals cannot afford to access.

In past editions of the race I used the tracker from the Web Site with satisfactory results. I'm just wondering if someone has a better way or can give some tips on how to configure the tracker from the website.

Predict Wind is the official supplier of weather information for the Vendee Globe. It appears the data from PredictWind is downloaded to the boat and on board weather routing software is used in conjunction with the boat's polar's and local (on board observations) are used to plan the routing. Another company will also supply weather routing information. See links below.

I suppose any of us could access this information and support for a price.

For those that like to follow each day with commentary. This guy from Amsterdam does a fantastic job of recapping each day of the race. He plans to cover this years race as well and I hope its as good as the 2020 race.

I hope Boris Herrmann Take it this time around! Though I do miss Alex Thomas and Hugo Boss. Sorry to see that partnership end.

Where can I buy tickets for a ride on the Hugo Boss keel?
I still have a vivid picture in my mind of Alex casually wandering around on deck chatting to an overhead chopper pilot with waves crashing over his boat, in strong winds, wile on a 30* heal. Alex is the GOAT but naaaaa. I'll just watch from here thanks.

Me, I'm rooting for Sam Davies. Have always been a fan since her race 12 yrs (?) ago, watched the men huddled below complaining of the beating they were getting from the waves and Sam up on deck dancing to Girls just wanna have fun... She's come close and is very accomplished, maybe this time?
