VEGAtarian Rendezvous

Hello All:

"The sun is up, the sky is blue, its beautiful and..."
Just a reminder to adjust your schedules to ensure that you do not miss this
summers' Rendezvous. The following is a notification from Pacific Yachting
confirming the inclusion of the VEGAtarian Rendezvous information in their
publication. As you can see I sent the original notice that Judy Schwan
developed earlier.
Three months and counting...bring your Tinkers...and hello to the individual
with V1033, just 6 vessels younger than ours.

Brian:
Thanks for the notice. I added this item to the May 2002 issue rendezvous
section in Currents and will continue to run it until August. We run a
"Rendezvous Round-up" feature in the December issue of every year, and we'd
love to include you in the feature. Please take lots of photos at this
year's event. Keep in touch.

Sincerely,

Andrea Lavigne

Hello All:

Unfortunately I have been informed that there is not enough space
available at Otter Bay for the September long weekend...The choices
are few given the distance that some may have to travel to attend.
Prot Browning always seems to be available, Bedwell bay is a port of
entry but is perhaps expensive, Fulford Harbour is a possibiliyt but
is farther away...etc...Any input would be appreciated. I need feed
back asap so that I can contact other venues...Sorry for the
inconvenience...

Brian,

Three places came to mind right away but they might be out of range:
Telegraph Harbour on Thetis Island, Maple Bay and Ganges.

I'm new here so scuse the questions that everyone else knows the answers to....What kind of participation do you expect and where do they come from (the
majority).

BTW *ANY* of those locations would be OK w/me. I tie up at Reed Point, Port
Moody.

I had a very humorous reply drafted involving Rule No.32 and the "Secret Initiation" but thought better of it so here's the straight scoop:

We hope you will show up. It would be nice if you could bring your boat.

That's it.

We usually have a pot luck dinner and there is a lot of visiting. We like to check out each other's boats so there is a sort of informal "Open house" at the docks with people wandering from boat to boat. Impromtu dingy races have been known to happen and spontaneity is the order of the day. Its all very casual and loads of fun.

Check out the Newsletter archive on your CD and look at Fair Winds #6,#9 and #11 for coverage of past VEGAtarian Rendezvous.

As for where we come from, Hawaii to Idaho, Oregon to British Columbia. Of course there are a lot of boats hailing from Seattle and Vancouver Island ports.

See you there.

You mean... no secret handshake? No riding the bull? Rule 32? I don't
suppose it has anything to do with Bikinis?

See you there (sans Bikini, my wife sold it on me)|Garry| At 06:36 PM 3/23/04 -0500, you wrote:

Port Browning is fine with me Brian. They have always been hospitable
and of course, there's the Bakery. d;^)

I need to know pretty soon too.

Hello Chuck:

Ok it's official...Port Browning is booked for the 2004 VEGAtarian
Rendezvous. Mark your calendars for September 4,5,6. I have reserved
12 spots under my name...Brian Hofler...I Promise I will arrive this
year as I am hauling Lyra over the Easter weekend to do the bottom
etc. Check out Port Browning at www.portbrowing.com.for some nice
shots of the area and the facilities. For those of you who cannot
visit the Pacific North West in person, this will give you something
to save for, to dream of, and perhaps someday, to experience...

Cheers

Hello,
Is there anyone going to the rendezvous from San
Francisco Bay area that needs crew? I would be
interested in crewing on a boat that's going there. I
have a Vega of my own, but lack experience to get her
up there. Would love to gain experience on someone
else's boat so I can confidently and safely sail her
up there next year for a Summer of cruising the
heavenly Pacific northwest. Thanks.

Just a reminder to the group.

The annual Pacific North West VEGAtarinan Rendezvous is scheduled for
Port Browning on September 4, 5, 6 , 2004/...I have 12 berths
reserved so first come...Hope to see you all there, bring your
Tinkers for dingy races (no spinikers), home made wine, Judy will
locate the crabs, Sunday dinner is a must at the pub and hope the
weather holds...For more infomation regarding Port Browning follow
the link to - portbrowning.com -&nbspThis website is for sale! -&nbspportbrowning Resources and Information. - for our American
friends - I think you can now clear in Port Browning if you give
several hours notice. You'll have to contact Canada and / or U.S.

Brian,

We can't make it this year. I cannot tell you how disapointed we are but it just isn't possible. I hope you and the others can take some pictures for me to put in the Newsletter.

On a positive note; we are going to try to sail to Kauai for the Nawiliwili Yacht Club's annual labor day race from Nawiliwili to Hanalei and I will cover that in an upcoming issue of "Fair Winds".

Be sure to give our Aloha to everyone at Port Browning.

A hui ho

Fisherman's Bay. Can anyone help?

Hey Chuck...Yeh...I belive Mitzi has stepped up to the plate as well
as Shiela (I think) who lives on one of the islands in the San Juans.
Anyway Diana and I are going to cruise in the area for a few weeks
next summer. By the way, Jim is taking his boat to the Sea of Cortez
for the winter and sailing by himself then moving back up here to
cruise for the summer...

Later.

Thanks Brian. Yeah, I knew about Jim. Gloria passed through here a
few months ago and we spent a few hours with her. She told us about
Jim's trip. Sounds like quite an adventure.

I should know by the end of January whether we can make it or not.

Aloha,

Chuck

I located Howard Barbour on Orcas Island and he confirmed the he and
his wife (Shiela I think) are responsible for orgnizing the
rendezvous at Fisherman's Bay. No pressure eh? Thats Canadian
talk...I'm sure all will be there....

Wasn't Fisherman's Bay the place where you arrived just at sunset
Brian (Made a great photo); Where Ken and Judy caught all those crabs
by dropping a pot right off the dock (MMMMMMM). That's also the place
where we had the "Viking" party and some of us (Not me) got into the
hot tub isn't it? Heck, If I remember right, it's worth going there
just to have breakfast at that place down the road from the marina!

a hui ho!
