Vegas in the Chesapeake Bay area

Hello to everyone. I have purchased my vega, 1977, hull number 3211,
formerly Nausicaa, early this year. first time I have actually seen
her was on the 25th of July when we moved to VA to work on her. she is
basically sound but requires a lot of renewing and clean up. Over all
I am happy with this boat. I had a Flicka prior to this one. I am
looking for fellow vega owners in the area. Also are there any Vega
owners club or informal geathering in the area?
please contact me on VLaz@... or post a reply here.

by the way I have been following this site and I have to say that you
all have a great forum for exchange of ideas information an
comraderie. Enjoy catching up with the now postings every time I come
home from sea. thank you

Hi,

I just returned from a cruise to Alaska (from Vancouver) - albeit in a
slightly larger ship ("Statendam"), so I didn't see your message before.
If you are still looking for fellow Vega owners "in the area", maybe you
could be a bit more specific which area? (I assume Chesapeake Bay, but
even that covers more than a day sail's worth).
I am based in Norfolk and know that there are a couple more Vegas
around here.

Hi all.
I know that replacements are available from VAGB but my (I suspect
original) is still ok.

This consists of two C-shaped struts made of (?) aluminium that pivot
about bolts through eyes at the ends of the two struts. The bolts are
secured into sockets port & stbd.

My problem is that to collapse the sprayhood when the Irish sun comes out
(yes it does happen even at the end of August) I have to loosen the bolts
& then re-tighten them. I would much prefer to be able to drop & raise the
sprayhood by simply releasing/securing ties at after end of fabric cover
port & stbd as on any modern boat.

The problem is the shape of the flanges into which the eyes are placed for
the pivot bolts.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks

John

Hi,

We're just back in town, too. Our Vega 1743 "Snipp" is on the Yeocomico River, on the
Northern Neck of Virginia, near where the Potomac empties into the Bay. I don't think
there are any Vega groups around about at the moment, but there are surely enough of us
on the Bay to invent one. I think we just need an organizer. Volunteers?
