Vega Trailer

Hello: I'm considering having a trailer built locally for my Vega.
Can anyone provide me with pictures, measurements, or a design for a
trailer that they are really proud of? Haven't seen any used ones
for sale (other than the one that was in hot demand on this site some
time ago). Anyone in the NW have one that I can copy? Thanks much,

Bill, I have a EZ loader double axle trailer for sale but unfortunately it also comes with my beloved Vega. My wife has lost interest and I've had abdominal surgery and won't get out much in the future. Its a 1978 #3233 boat and trailer $15,500.

Hi All,

Can anyone provide any advice on putting Vegas on a trailer. I'm just
thinking about next winter (organised I know...).

In particular, what sort of vehicles have people used, and what designs of
trailer have worked? Are there cheap options? It seems that the Vega is
just small enough to run on a sensible trailer, like a large caravan, and
there's no need to think about complicated braking systems, wide loads and
stuff like that. Any stories about launching and loading the vega back onto
the trailer would also be interesting.

In terms of the legal restrictions, this is all in the UK.

Cheers!

Tom, there are some pictures of trailers on this site. If you are
making one, you can use the dimensions of a typical Vega cradle for the
width of the trough and the height and placement of the pads. I would
definitely recommend brakes for 5000 lb plus load though. . Trev (V2915

Hi Tom

I have towed a few Vegas and I used a Isuzu Bighorn (Trooper) 3.1TD. Only towed at 35mph but managed quite a few distances.

Steve:
My trailer experience is as follows:
-Tandem axle trailer with 3500 lb axles, brakes on all four wheels
-Full-length keel rest.
-Seven adjustable support pads including one under the bow.

Tow vehicle: '98 Dodge pickup, 5.9l Turbo Diesel ... no problem!

Wet Launching:
-Trailer has a solid fifth wheel and a screw jack on tongue.
-Attach 25' strap to hitch and back trailer into water until boat
floats off.
-Reverse procedure to retrieve, just make sure the boat is far enough
forward to weigh down the front of the trailer!
-Mast raised and lowered using an "A" frame, as per

Boat/trailer picture at http://www3.telus.net/sailing/trailer1.jpg

Hope this helps a bit!

Tom,
Just one more comment: As long as the axles and frame have adequate
carrying capacity, it's a lot less expensive to modify a good existing
trailer than to build one from scratch.
