Vega Sold

Hi everyone,

I justed wanted to pass on that I sold my Vega, "Erendira," (#2947) on Monday. I owned her for seven years, and repowered and refitted her during that time.

The Vega's a great boat. I enjoyed sailing her on the SF Bay and outside "The Gate." Her new owners are from Powell River, British Columbia. I'm certain, they will take excellent care of her, and will enjoy many a sailing day in Canadian waters.

I'm also sure they will be participating in this association. The Vega association has been one the best "features" of owning one of these now legendary boats.

I wish everyone in this group the best.

Fair winds to all,

Steve DeMont

Hi Stephen!

As a Swedish member I appreciate that you like our boats! I am sure you will like the Mistral as much as the Vega. It was built at Ellös, a small village on the west coast of Sweden by Harry Hallberg. The company is now part of the worl famous Hallberg-Rassy boats. The next step up on the ladder maight be a Hallberg-Rassy boat!

Yours,

Björn

Hi Bjorn & Steve

I love teh Vega but I also think the Mistral is a very beautiful boat. I sailed a Vega from North of Marstrand a few years back and when I reached Vordingberg the engine had seized. We had to beat against a F6 into the harbour (about twenty tacks in a 20 metre channel) and teh only place to berth was against a Mistral. The owner put a lot of fenders out as we made a perfect landing and just kissed hulls. We even had applause at the manouvre and glasses of gammel Dansk were handed to everyone. I remember the Mistral had lots of wood, very sleek and truly a beautiful boat.

Kind Regards

Hi Bjorn and Steve,

Yeah, the Mistral is gorgeous, seakindly boat. I first ran across one in Alameda, California when I had my Vega, "Erendira," down there. I was instantly smitten, but couldn't justify spending the money on one, especially since my Vega had been totally refitted.

If my wife hadn't "suggested" that we should look for a bigger boat, one with more leg room down below, I would've kept my Vega. But who am I to argue with the little woman?

The other thing about the Mistral was that, being Swedish, made me appreciate the Vega's design--Simple lines, functional in all aspect from its sailing ability to accommodations. Granted, the Mistral is a bit more plush with all the mahogany and headroom, but the Vega has a similar motion at sea as the Mistral with its narrow beam and low freeboard. I guess that's just how I like my sailboats.

I'll miss the Vega because it was my first "big" boat, graduating from 20-footers. I learned a lot about boat maintenance and sailing singlehanded on my Vega. I'm walking away with a lot of good memories with her, from refitting and repowering to just playing around on the SF Bay. I'm sure the new owners will enjoy her in her new sailing grounds: British Columbia.

In the meantime, now that I'm living in Seattle, I'm planning a whole new bunch of adventures in the Puget Sound on my Mistral, "Erendira II." There's a lot to explore up here.

Steve

I don't know who the moderator is for us, but is there a way to
filter/reject messages gvglokerc with the Yahoo server?

I don't believe there is a moderator for this group in the sense that you
mean. Not that SPAM is my flavour at all (tisin't) but at least the bone
heads that post it here are helpful enough to provide key words in the
subject line that my filter can see. :)-)

Unfortunately all it takes to spam a group is to join it (under any name)
as many times as you like....

The only way to avoid the spam is to make the group private. The only way someone could join a private group is by emailing the moderator. Then the moderator could add that person to the group. This is a big pain for the moderator to have to do. Even if the moderator wanted to do that kind of work, I'm not sure if an existing group can be changed to private. So another Vega group might need to be started to do that with all the headaches that come with starting a new group.

Yes, it is a pain, but a quick 'delete' as I do is more effective than
complaining. It's a symptom of PC-life. Bert

I've found out lots of people have no virus protection,
don't know about Spam, Spyware, and whatever... and happily
sent chain letters with hundred of addresses.. No wonder
our address becomes known.

There's little one can do about stupidity and carelessness;
I just delete when I'm not sure the e-mail is from a member
I know by name.

I had the most wonderful day today sailing- so why worry
about spam... there's always the 'delete' button.:)

I don't know what that "rigerovski" or whatever wanted, but
I'm sure it was Spam, and deleting that message unread was
the right thing to do
