Finally, I found the file looked for in years past that is, in my opinion, the best explanation of how the Vega mast beam transfers loads to the hull, and several interesting fixes for mast beam problems, including detailed diagrams. It also mentions the original design had an arch, not a straight beam, but this was not done by the builder.

I can't recall the exact source of this article, but I suspect it's from the Vega Owner's Repair Manual by Sidney Rosen. I'll post a link to it on my server, hopefully not offending the author or custodian of this information. This material needs to be out there!
