Vega Mainsail For Sale

Hi, All:

I recently discovered that I still have a mainsail for the Vega that I sold
about 4 years ago. I removed it from the sailbag and found it to be in quite
good condition. It still has, quite prominently, numbers - 1868 - on it,
along with the Vega "V" and 4-pointed star.

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being pristine, I'd say it's about a 6 or 7
. No rips nor repairs.

I am located in Mystic, CT if anybody in interested in seeing it. I don't
really know what a fair price would be, either.

You may call me at (860) 536-9593, or e-mail me at _saylered@..._
(mailto:saylered@...) .

Happy New Year and Smooth Sailing.

Ed Davis

Here's a guy on Ebay selling a couple of mainsails that are similar in size to the Vega's main:

May not fit (boltrope vs slugs etc), but they certainly are cheap. -Tim

I recently parted out a Vega I owned due to the new laws here in CT regarding registration of old boats. The state now wants essentially an unbroken chain of bills of sale to the last registration, and of course wants that registration as well before they will issue one. Couldn’t register it, so I sent it to the world’s biggest garbage disposal….

In any case I have a new old stock set of main and 100% jib from Sailrite, as well as a similar set of storm sails. They are about 10 years old, and have been stored in a metal can so no vermin damage.

I’ll be looking to sell them, probably on Ebay or something when I have time. Any idea what a fair price for them might be?

Dave

Would that it was so simple. In CT you can sail a boat with no
registration only up to a length of 18 feet; part of the changes in the
law. A 19 foot sail or rowboat has to have a tag... Pretty sure you
couldn't insure it if you sailed without a reg either. Also years ago I
purchased a sailboat from URI, and I know that RI had pretty tough laws
regarding that as well.

Wasn't that solid either, but would have been worth bringing it up to
speed if not for this issue.

Having problems in Mass because Mass doesn't recognize a RI title unless its notarized. So I had to send it back to the slller and am waiting for it to return.
Sent on the Sprint? Now Network from my BlackBerry?

Sounds like more govt regulation and bureaucracy killed the Vega.
It's too bad that more and more often, government seems to work against the average guy and reward the unscrupulous.
I vote just to choose the lesser of the 2 evils/incompetents that are usually running, that way I can whine about lousy govt. and don't have to feel guilty about not having done my part.
We really need a normal-average guy third party, if things keep getting worse, maybe we will get one....-Tim
