Vega Identification Number(s)

Can someone advise where identification number(s) can be found on the
Albin Vega? I have seen an ID number on the mast but am not sure this
is the "official" hull ID number. The inboard motor has been removed
from my 1970 Albin Vega; any other location where ID numbers may be
found? Thanks, Ron Scott

Hi Ron

A 1970 should read about 1000

There is a bronze plate in teh cockpit by the lights with the number
engraved.

Also a number on the mainsail. Should be a V with a number

The no. stamped on the bronze plate in the cockpit is the one used.
Adjacent to the controls on the side of the bridge deck. "VEGA xxxx"

If you look carefully at the transom, in the extreme upper-starboard corner,
you'll find the Vega ID numbers there, including the date of manufacture.

The plate may be missing on a thirty six year old boat. The number
should also be engraved on the transom, upper corner. I can't
remember which side.

The numbers on the transom weren't required by the US Coast Guard until the
mid 70's. Early Vegas only have the bronze plate in the cockpit. There's
also a hull number imprinted under the forward berths on the centerline, but it
doesn't match the ID number. Bill Bach

Mine has another number. If you look inside the starboard lazarette cockpit locker, against the hull. Could that have been added later on?

Hi All

There are various manufacturing numbers inside the cockpit lockers etc.
These may or may not correspond to teh Vega Ident number. Every Vega had
a bronze plate in the cockpit near the lights control switches. The same
number will also be on the original mainsail.

As a very rough approximation:

0001 - 0500 = 1967 - 1969 (Series I)
0501 - 1350 = 1969 - 1971 (Series I)
1351 - 1800 = 1971 - 1973 (Series II)
1801 - 2900 = 1973 - 1975 (Series II)
2901 - 3050 = 1975 - 1976 (Series II)
3051 - 3450 = 1976 - 1978 (Series III)

Please dont bite my head off as thgis is a very rough approximation.

Richard,
What does it look like?
On mine it is a plate with the numbers/letters punched completely out. They are about 2 inches high. The plate looks like it is epoxied to the hull.

The numbers are painted on. Don't remember what they are. Also I seem
to remember numbers on the side of the cockpit well, inside the stbd
locker.
