Vega didn't sink

Hi all,

I'm happy to report my Vega did not sink after all.

We found her on the I45 freeway, on her side.
She was destroyed by another boat crashing into the cabin
top. The mast was broken in two and bent around the boat
Damage to extensive to repair, but I have managed to
salvage the Beta engine and my air conditioning unit and
all my head sails. There was no major water damage to
the inside of the boat, luckily.
So, if anyone is looking for a slightly used Beta engine
(less than 200 hours), sails or a portable a/c unit let me
know.

Whilst IO'm sure it's of little consolation, this is perhaps another testimony as to what a tough little bugger the Vega hull is.

So bear that in mind for when the insurance comes through and keep those bits for 'spares' on your next Vega.

Hi Lori sorry to hear that your Vega was too badly damaged to repair but glad that you are able to do a lot of salvage so parts of her can live on.

Hi Lori,
Sorry to hear about your loss. I would be interested in the engine if it is still available. Thanks-Tim

Hi Tim,

Yes, the engine is still available. Where are you located?
I'm in Houston, TX shipping would be expensive.

Hi Lori,
I'm in Colorado, but have several friends in Texas. I might be able to get them to pick it up or I may be able to take off work a couple of days and do a quick road trip down there to pick it up. -Tim

That sounds good. I went down today and we pulled the gear shift and
linkage and the muffler off. The only thing I don't have is the shaft and
prop. The shaft was bent and I'm not sure what happened to the prop.

When I was there I found my sailing records, it turns out the engine
only has about 75 hours on it.

I lost alot of stuff from people stealing from the boats down there.
Nothing like a double whammy, I just don't understand some people.

I'm asking $3K for it, including the muffler.
Let me know what you want to do.

Are you going to sell Southern Comfort Too?

I would like to get another Vega, but can't do it right now.

Lori,
We were so sorry to read about your Vega's fate. It's more than just a possession that we insure and replace when it's damaged. I guess that's why we name them in the first place.
We've been considering selling it but no firm plans are in place. Our free time just hasn't afforded us enough time to get out as we hoped. Let us know what your interest might be.
We'd be very flexible for true Vega lover.

I might be interested in the sails. What do you have and what is the
condition? Contact me via email. albinvega1493@...

Lori,

I'd like to buy the engine if it is available. I was just about to buy a new one and have it shipped from North Carolina to Seattle, WA for installation in my 1972 Vega that I just bought. The old MD6A is totally shot and not worth repairing.

Please let me know.

Catherine, if you are removing your MD6, I wonder if you would be
willing to sell some parts from it. I am particularly interested in
acquiring a combi reversing mechanism (or MS reverse gear and shaft
etc). Thanks, Trev
