George: I just had a trailer built, copying one in Seattle. I can give you
all the dimensions if you'd like. The center of gravity is shown on Per
Brohall's plan in the Vega handbook, but the dimensions that I have take those
the next step to design a trailer around them. Let me know if you're
interested. It will be a little complex, as I don't know how to post a plan to this
group, but I can give you the basics. It cost me about $5900 - Torflex
axles, hydraulic brakes, galvanized frame. It's at the galvanizer now - once it's
back I'll be assembling everything and can post pictures. Bill Bach, V

Hi Bill

SOunds the Rolls Royce of all Vega trailers. Well done. Any chance of
details and photos/plans for the rest of the group?

Cheers

Hi George!

You can find the Vega handbook on the link below and Per Brohall show
in a picture on page 5 where the center of gravity is.

Hi Bill,

that would be great, any info you have gladly accepted (I guess others
in the group might be interexted also). I'd particulaly like the
measurment from bow to CG. (I see the CG is marked in the manual, but
I don't see a dimension?)Rgds

Hi guys,

to anybody how has their vega on a trailer. With the boat reaonably
well balanced (toe weight something sensible) what is the measurment
from the bow to center of the trailer (from axle to bow on a two wheel
trailer or half way between the two axles to the bow on a four wheel
trailer)

I'm sure thats a clear as mud

I'd like to get as many responces as possible and average the answer.

George: I'll post pictures when I get the chance, but on the trailer I'm
having built, the distance from the bow to the center of the two axle pair is
187". This puts the center of gravity of the boat about a foot forward of
that centerline, and the center of gravity of the whole rig about 6" farther
forward of that (trailer will be heavier forward of the axle centerline due to
length of tongue, coupler, etc). All this equates to about 700 pounds of
tongue weight - just about what you want. The hydraulic brake actuator that I'm
using is rated up to 800 lbs tongue weight (10000 lb Titan actuator). I made
the bow stop adjustable so that I can shift the boat slightly fore and aft
to balance if need be. These dimensions came from measuring a Vega on a
trailer built especially for it by one of the top commercial manufacturers. The
owner says the trailer tracks perfectly and is balanced the way it should be.

Steve: I'll share what I can as I get it assembled. I'm not in a big rush
- just so it's done when I haul out this fall. Getting the frame to the
galvanizer was interesting - it only weighed about 1100 lbs, but I had to block
it on my flatbed trailer so that it overhung forward over my tow vehicle. A
couple of chains and binders and off I went. Should have it back next week
and can start assembly. Beautiful welding job by a local iron worker- not my
skill set as yet. I can stick metal together but it would have looked like
frozen snot (apologies to L.Francis Herreshoff for stealing his description of
fiberglass). Bill

Thanks a million Bill, that exactly the info I was looking for.

How much adjustment is there in the bow stop??
