Having owned Spring Fever for nine years now and never even looked inside the halyard winches, I'm thinking they might be a tad overdue for a service by now; especially as I'm quite conscientious about cleaning and greasing the Andersen sheet winches at the start of every season. The reason for my ignoring them up to now is undoubtedly the fact that I have no idea what to expect when I do open them up.

So; does anyone have a service manual (there must be such a thing) that they could PDF to me? Alternatively, could someone just post a description of the servicing process, I can't believe that its too complex?

I'm currently presuming that I get a very wide bladed slot-head screwdriver and unscrew the central hub, but what happens after that? I'd hate to unscrew it and then discover that I have springs and/or roller bearings flying past my head or bouncing over the toe rail.

THat's pretty much it.Screwdriver. Winch grease.
There are springs inside, but I don't recall them wanting to shoot out directly.I was also concerned just as you are, but it wasn't hard.Of course, having said that, I did loose a spring in the grass due to my own carelessness and not using a big enough towel to lay everything on while cleaning.Went to the auto store and cut a new spring down to size.rb
