I am having problems with my VDO sumlog. My HR352 is 21 years old so I guess the log is 21 years old. I always remove the log when I leave the boat for more than a day. so it is always popping in and out. It doesn't seem to wake up until we have covered about 4 miles and now it is reading very much under what it should. There appear to be magnets in three of the veins (the thicker ones), so what could be the problem. Furneaux Riddall were less than helopful except to give me a number to call at VDO technical in birmingham only there is no one there and the answermachine tells you it is full. Any ideas anyone. Do logs just wear out ? Duncan

Biting the bullet! Sumlog

Duncan, Recently sold my '88 HR352, but previously had probs with Sumlog. I spent considerable time trying to fault find and get tech support. Apparently (even in 1988) the VDO equipment was good, but not 'everlasting! Eventually, I 'bit the bullet' and installed Raymarine ST60 Tridata... best move I made. Also, I believe the new Silva NX2 equipment is good. You may be lucky enough to pick up a good used/new ex-stock kit on e-Bay. Fair winds.

VDO parts

Duncan, I believe that I may have a spare speed sensor and a spare transducer (new) for the vdo instruments that originally came with my HR352. I also may have the old instrument heads. If you haven't found replacements yet. Sorry for the late response. Bill
