VC-17

Hello all, this is a two part question.

First one is applying a VC-17 to the bottom of our boat. The in the past has had this type of paint on it, but what I am wondering is to apply the hull has to be clean and dry. How would you clean the hull with? Just a brush and light soap, and how hard or how much pressure should be applied.

Second question is I have a 1992 28 MKII, but I do not see category for this length of boat. Should I be looking in the Catanlina 22 or 30. I am guessing Catalina do not make 28 anymore. I am hoping that if I need parts for this length of boat, I will be to get them.

Just did mine the other week. If it was pressure washed when you pulled it out last fall. All you need to do is take a scotch-brite pad and a damp rag , and wipe/rub over it.

As this guy says, Do Not put a lot of paint in the tray, just have someone pouring a little at a time on the roller.
And here in Milwaukee with the temps cool, the paint still dried really quick.
I used a 4" roller frame and got a cheap 9" foam roller cover and cut it in half, similar to the other guy. And as he mentioned, I have a bit of paint left in the soda bottle for painting where it sat on the craddle when they pick it in the slings.

I put my VC 17 on a 2 liter plastic paint bottle. I only pour what I need into the tray to avoid evaporation. We used to use 2 cans to paint the underside. Now use 1 1/2. I split 3 cans with another catalina 30 owner at my club. Saves me $30/season doing it.

With VC 17m you don't have to sand between coats. Just make sure your hull is clean and dry before applying the paint. Roll it on, but mask off the waterline first to get a crisp line. This is great paint, but is single season so needs to be applied annually. But, it is cheaper than most other bottom paints and the great thing about it is that it never builds up so that some time in the future you need to take it off.
