Has anyone ever successfully replaced the freshwater hose running to the vanity sink? I would like to replace mine with a piece of water hose that is more flexible and will seal better than the hard plastic line that is in there. Thanks in advance, Dan

Attach the new line to the old and pull it through

Dan: If you can attach the new line to the old one and then just pull it through it should work. You may also want to consider attaching a string line to this so you could pull wires at a later date too. You had asked about other types of hose to use. Whale makes some new stuff that may be worth looking at. It is suppose to be very easy to assemble. PS: are you in Clear Lake California?

PVC and PVC Cement instead

You're on the right track, Claude, but duct tape can get hung up in a tight place...and if you hit a snag, it may not hold the two pieces of hose together...the LAST thing you want is for 'em to part company halfway through. So you want as smooth an outer surface a possible and a bond on the pipe that can't let go. I don't know whether PVC cement will bond to copper pipe, but i'll definitely keep the two pieces of hose on a piece of PVC. Butt the two ends of the old and new hose as tightly together as possible and let it set. Then, as you say, cut the hose behind the connector after you've pulled it through. I've always found that a blow dryer and dish soap are easier to work with than hot water to warm the hose and put it on the male-to male coupler...but if you want to mess with boiling water, that's ok.

Thank you all for your ideas. I did attach the old and new with a plastic adapter but was afraid they would pull apart. I think I will try the PVC cement that Peggy suggested and the method that Claude proposed. I will have to decide if it is better to let my wife try to help or just find someone on the dock. I tried to pull it through myself last weekend but couldn't get it to move at all. I will try again with two people. I am switching from the hard plastic to the more flexible vinyl hoses for a better seal at the ends now that I have installed a pressurized water system.
